4 Pitfalls to Avoid When Having a Website Designed

Derek Stevenson • December 22, 2020

There is no overstating the importance of enlisting the skills of a great web design company. With over 3.5 billion internet users across the globe and recent booms in ecommerce, having a website that is easy to navigate and aesthetically is something your business cannot be without. As such, quite a few good practices have been developed throughout the industry, making that beautiful website within reach for any enterprise.

That being said, there are still a number of common mistakes you should be aware of. After all, one of the best ways to do the right thing is to avoid doing things wrong. With no further delay, here are some of the most common web design pitfalls out there:

1. Do not compromise during the design and development process

Any web design project is a collaborative endeavor. If you choose to work with a web design company such as Envision Marketing, we would bring our expertise of user habits, best practices, and web design while you contribute your specific knowledge of your industry, your sales and marketing goals, and knowledge of your own brand standards.

During this discussion, it is important to understand that compromises must be made here and there to create a better result. After all, by combining your skills, expertise, and vision you can create the best website that generates results for your business.

2. Do not forget to pay attention to the budget

One of the most complex aspects of planning a web design project is the budget. First, this begins with understanding popular business models used by many web design companies. More often than not, a project is quoted based on the hours it will take. Additionally, there may be recurring charges for any continuing services such as security, web hosting, SEO (search engine optimization) and marketing automation that may proceed beyond the completion of the website.

It is important to make sure that everyone is on the same page from the beginning (even in terms of the budget), so that the project can proceed as smoothly as possible. Redesigns and revisions might end up slowing down the web design process. Make sure to follow up regularly on the progress of the project and ask potential budget issues.

3. Do not take too long providing feedback

Any creative process involves a thorough back-and-forth process between company and client. Designers will forward their progress to you for feedback and possible revision. The longer this takes, however, the longer designers are likely to wait idly for a response.

Try to review the drafts with as much consideration as you can, and as quickly as you can. That way, you can make the most out of your design budget and reach your desired deadline with no delays.

4. Do not trust too much in a design template

As we have mentioned before, there are plenty of established practices in the field of web design. If your budget is fairly limited for whatever reason, it might be possible to save money by using certain templates that adhere to these practices. They can keep the budget low and can give your users and customers an experience that they’re already familiar with.

That being said, it is still important to get a little more creative with these templates. After all, while you do save money, you run the risk of appearing generic. Your website might not be very memorable to your customers, feel generic and might even drown out the better qualities of your brand.

Most professional web design agencies like Envision Marketing do not use website templates. The value of hiring a digital marketing agency or web development agency is in the custom web design and graphic design that sets your brand apart from the competition. While many aspects of a website, such as the header, footer and calls to action (CTA) may be similar, your new lead generation website will be creative, original and unique to your brand.

Final Thoughts

Web design companies understand that businesses of different industries have different needs and expectations. This is where the right web design company can help, but you must think about the bigger picture and make sure you avoid these common mistakes. Whether you need a lead generation website, ecommerce website or just want to improve your brand image and brand awareness, using a professional digital marketing agency such as Envision Marketing will help you get better results.

As a Black digital marketing agency owner, I am excited to wish everyone a Happy Juneteenth! Today is a time for us to celebrate the end of slavery and to honor the resilience and strength of the Black community. It is also an opportunity for us to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to achieve true equality and justice for Black people. One way we can make a difference is by supporting Black-owned businesses. The importance of this cannot be overstated. Black entrepreneurs face unique challenges when starting and growing their businesses, and the impact of COVID-19 has made things even more difficult. By intentionally seeking out and purchasing from Black-owned businesses, we can help address the wealth gap and promote economic empowerment within the Black community. It's important to note that supporting Black-owned businesses is not just a one-time act of solidarity. It is a commitment to building a more equitable and just society that extends beyond Juneteenth. One way to make this commitment is to actively seek out and patronize Black-owned businesses in our communities. This could be as simple as buying your coffee from a Black-owned café, ordering takeout from a Black-owned restaurant, or purchasing products from a Black-owned retailer. Another way to support Black-owned businesses is by using social media to amplify their voices and promote their products and services. By sharing posts, leaving reviews, and tagging Black-owned businesses in our content, we can help increase their visibility and attract more customers. It's important to remember that our support has a real impact on these businesses and can make all the difference in their success. Beyond supporting Black-owned businesses, we must also continue to learn and educate ourselves about the experiences and contributions of Black people throughout history. This includes engaging with literature, art, and scholarship by Black authors, artists, and academics. It also means actively seeking out diverse perspectives and being willing to have difficult conversations about race and racism. At my digital marketing agency, we are committed to promoting the voices and experiences of Black people. We recognize that the marketing industry has a long history of perpetuating harmful stereotypes and exclusionary practices. That's why we work to ensure that our campaigns are inclusive, representative, and reflective of the diversity of our society. We also strive to create opportunities for Black entrepreneurs and businesses to succeed. Whether it's through social media campaigns , website design and development, or search engine optimization , we believe that our work can help make a real difference in the success of Black-owned businesses. In conclusion, Juneteenth is a time for us to celebrate the end of slavery and the strength of the Black community. It is also an opportunity for us to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to achieve true equality and justice for Black people. By supporting Black-owned businesses, educating ourselves, and promoting diversity and inclusion in our marketing practices, we can help create a more just and equitable future for all.
