2 Key SEO Findings in 2020 for 2021 and Beyond - Our Guide

Derek Stevenson • November 30, 2020

Although it is no secret that 2020 has been an eventful year for most Houston residents and businesses, it has been especially momentous for the world of Search Engine Optimization.

With COVID-19 forcing businesses and customers alike to go online to keep things running smoothly, it’s easy to see why SEO is stronger and in-demand than ever. For the past few months, search volumes across all topics and terms have exploded, causing a surge in returns, profit, and a complete turnaround for key players that realized the opportunity at hand.

While the digital marketing world has significantly exploded because of the sheer influx of opportunities and traffic rates, search engines have also become even more utilized in recent months. Given the current traction of SEO in today’s landscape and all the progress that it has made over the last few months, there’s one key set of factors to keep an eye on: The most important SEO developments for 2021.

A rundown of a few critical lessons

Thanks to the significant amount of developments and forced migration that has driven digital marketing to the stratosphere, search engine optimization is riding on the waves of success. With this success comes along a monumental load of different developments and key findings that outline just how well this year went for those practicing the strategy, such as the following:

1. The GPT-3 wave is going to set the bar for the future of content creation

Among the different rising stars of modern SEO that have shone the brightest for the past few months, the biggest difference-maker to start watching out for is OpenAI’s GPT-3 (especially content marketers). In 2020, a growing number of content marketers began to make a gradual shift to editorial roles thanks to the use of AI systems that generated content based on specific types of input.

Given the current traction that OpenAI’s software is picking up thanks to continuous updates, it’s easy to see why content marketers are keen on using it in their strategies. It also happens that SEO has taken a fundamental turn towards a commitment to incentivizing quality content with higher ranking, which is where the GPT-3 wave can prove to be a valuable asset!

2. The grip on indexed content is only going to get tighter

Another key development of SEO that has fully manifested in 2020 and is ready to take on all the years that follow is Google’s stricter stand on indexing content for page rankings.

Considering that there is a direct relationship between Google’s standards and the number of websites vying for top spots, it was only a matter of time that the search engine became stricter on what it indexes. While such a development is great for consumers because of how well it minimizes the risk of low-quality content, it poses a certain level of difficulty that can’t be overlooked.

When you consider this key update, it’s best to understand that one of your primary goals should be to produce quality content to catch up with the competition. For instance, if you’ve got a new website that has a rather low domain authority, you’ll need to work twice as hard, but you can also make things easier by letting Envision Marketing help you out!

Conclusion

Although 2020 may be clearly defined as a “year of firsts” because of all the different events that took place, to say the same thing for the world of Search Engine Optimization would be an understatement. Through this guide’s help, you can prepare yourself for a future of highly-advanced SEO by drawing the right insights that will help you build a better strategy!

As a Black digital marketing agency owner, I am excited to wish everyone a Happy Juneteenth! Today is a time for us to celebrate the end of slavery and to honor the resilience and strength of the Black community. It is also an opportunity for us to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to achieve true equality and justice for Black people. One way we can make a difference is by supporting Black-owned businesses. The importance of this cannot be overstated. Black entrepreneurs face unique challenges when starting and growing their businesses, and the impact of COVID-19 has made things even more difficult. By intentionally seeking out and purchasing from Black-owned businesses, we can help address the wealth gap and promote economic empowerment within the Black community. It's important to note that supporting Black-owned businesses is not just a one-time act of solidarity. It is a commitment to building a more equitable and just society that extends beyond Juneteenth. One way to make this commitment is to actively seek out and patronize Black-owned businesses in our communities. This could be as simple as buying your coffee from a Black-owned café, ordering takeout from a Black-owned restaurant, or purchasing products from a Black-owned retailer. Another way to support Black-owned businesses is by using social media to amplify their voices and promote their products and services. By sharing posts, leaving reviews, and tagging Black-owned businesses in our content, we can help increase their visibility and attract more customers. It's important to remember that our support has a real impact on these businesses and can make all the difference in their success. Beyond supporting Black-owned businesses, we must also continue to learn and educate ourselves about the experiences and contributions of Black people throughout history. This includes engaging with literature, art, and scholarship by Black authors, artists, and academics. It also means actively seeking out diverse perspectives and being willing to have difficult conversations about race and racism. At my digital marketing agency, we are committed to promoting the voices and experiences of Black people. We recognize that the marketing industry has a long history of perpetuating harmful stereotypes and exclusionary practices. That's why we work to ensure that our campaigns are inclusive, representative, and reflective of the diversity of our society. We also strive to create opportunities for Black entrepreneurs and businesses to succeed. Whether it's through social media campaigns , website design and development, or search engine optimization , we believe that our work can help make a real difference in the success of Black-owned businesses. In conclusion, Juneteenth is a time for us to celebrate the end of slavery and the strength of the Black community. It is also an opportunity for us to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to achieve true equality and justice for Black people. By supporting Black-owned businesses, educating ourselves, and promoting diversity and inclusion in our marketing practices, we can help create a more just and equitable future for all.
